This handsome middle-aged guy was found a stray in NYC. He is calm, relaxed and allows all handling. He had an excellent evaluation at the shelter, and is social with people and appropriate with all other dogs. He had soft body language, and had manners while on leash. Bubba is ready for adoption in New England!
Notes for Bubba:
He is a senior dog. His hips are not great - hips or knees, or both. Based on his body structure, weakness in the back legs, etc, he has been dealing with a weaker back end for some time. It also appears that he has an old injury to his front leg - i.e. hit by car and healed on its own (that's a guess).
Bubba does not appear to be in pain. He has limitations - such as he won't be able to climb a flight of stairs, and he can't hike. But 3 steps into the house or a walk to the mail box is plenty for him. He would do well if he swam, assuming he likes water. he loves to ride, he loves his crate, and he's super friendly and very dog social.
Because of his age (8, or more) , and because he has no adoption fee, we don't plan to do Xrays, orthopedic surgery or anything similar. We are looking for a home that will give him supplements, short and low-impact exercise, and a soft bed. His mind is "all there" and he compensates well. If the adopter wants to Xray him at their expense (or on pet health insurance) just so that they know exactly what's going on, that's up to them. But he - like many other older people - have learned to compensate for their structural deficiencies, vs. spending thousands of dollars on orthopedic surgery that will probably do him more harm than good. If he were my dog, I'd put him on natural anti-inflammatory and get him swimming.
