Bonnie is a two-year-old rottweiler. Right now, she lives with a family of four in northern Connecticut. She interacts with children daily. She is very energetic and smart. This is a dog that wants to play and work and be around people as much as possible. No aggression toward other dogs has been observed. She is very excited to play with all the ones she has encountered so far. She has also received some formal training on commands like sit, lay down, and wait.
Unfortunately, her high energy levels and minor behavioral issues mean that she is not right for families with small children. Temperamentally, she is very sweet but a little too energetic for our family. The main area of concern is that she guards food and, sometimes, toys. She has snapped before but precedes this action with either growling or by trying to take the guarded item away. The guarding is mainly with food. Non-food items she will eventually drop when commanded but it takes some time. She has also shown some aggression when coming out of sedation or when she is being examined by veterinarians.
Bonnie is a good dog who needs to be in a home with adults and mature kids who understand her needs and how to handle her.
She has obedience training and She knows heel and come. Off and No are ones she struggles with on the first iteration but eventually complies with. We have not had to clip her nails but if we did we would have the Vet do it and/or muzzle her for safety sake.
