Hi everyone!
I'm Mia, a five year old special needs girl who came out of the shelter with 80% of my hair missing. Thanks to For the Love of Dog and a kind sponsor, I was successfully treated for a severe skin infection and then was evaluated at Cornell Companion Animal Hospital where they discovered I have an auto-immune skin disease. It is completely treatable but will require me to take oral medication for the rest of my life. I take pills morning and evening right now. The disease is called pemphigus foliaceous. It causes small crusts to form where my immune system is attacking my skin. I have no redness or itching and have most of my hair back now. I feel so much better! I am a lovable girl who prefers to spend her time inside chillaxing with her humans! I love toys and will hoard them in my crate. I am great with other dogs and cats too. My only fault is that I am possessive of my toys. In my current foster home the other dogs just laugh at my behavior and say "whatever"! So I can be with other dogs if they are the laid back about sharing. I love to ride in the car and make a great traveling companion. I love my Kong jumbler ball and could spend hours letting you throw it for me!
Mia's meds cost approx $70/month right now. She has no adoption fee and is available to a family who will commit to her ongoing care in the north east.
